Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a system of healing which has been practised in China and other eastern countries for thousands of years

Here at Physioplus we have focused on using acupuncture for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. When you are in pain from a muscle, nerve or joint problem the muscle becomes super sensitive and shortens.

This stops the muscle or joint operating normally. Using acupuncture to penetrate the tissue specifically targets the injured muscles that have contracted and shortened. This aims to release the muscle and reduce the sensitivity so the muscle can function normally allowing for better movement around the joint involved.

What will I feel?

Penetration of a normal muscle is painless; however, a shortened, supersensitive muscle will ‘grasp’ the needle. The sensation is often described as a tingling or a dull ache. The sensation causes a response in the nervous system return to normal, producing relaxation of the muscle (lengthening) and initiating the natural healing.

How Long are the needles in?

Needles are inserted either for a second or two, or left in place for up to 20 minutes, depending on the effect required.
